With an MSc in Dietetics, Andy is Research & Development and Quality Control Manager at FoodGrown. Ambitious without being overly serious, meticulous without losing the joy, Andy is exactly who you want safeguarding your wellness shelf.
Let’s get to know her a little better…
If you had a theme song, what would it be?
“Probably ‘Unwritten’ by Natasha Bedingfield. I am constantly looking for ways to improve and optimise all things around me. I am ambitious without being overly serious!”
What is the biggest risk you have ever taken?
“When I left school and started university in Pietermaritzburg to study Dietetics. I had never been there and did not know a single soul. I decided to start afresh and define my education and career path on my own! It definitely paid off.”
Where do you find your inspiration?
“In my daughters! I have two little girls (1 and 3). I want to give them the best life I can and also inspire them to be strong, independent women.”
If you were given one thousand acres of land, what would you do with it?
“I grew up on a sheep and chicken farm and never really saw myself in that line of work. I think I would create a health and wellness retreat featuring all sorts of wellness activities and farm-to-table nutritious food for people to escape from the stresses of life and heal!”
Where do you go to find peace and recharge?
“As a parent of little kids, I don’t have much time alone. Going to the gym or for a run on the road is my way to relax and recharge.”
If we came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare?
“As a budding cook and passionate foodie, I have quite a few recipes up my sleeve. My slow-roasted, Greek-style roast lamb is definitely a firm favourite though.”
How would people communicate in a perfect world?
“Communicating clearly and with intention would be a good start. A lot of tension comes in with miscommunication. Most people can’t read minds, so being clear about what you want and need is really important.”
What small steps can people take to improve their relationship to the environment?
“Being aware of your footprint and that everything you do counts. Being mindful of what you consume and put in your body.”
Quick-fire with Andy
Hunter or gatherer? “I am not the best at keeping houseplants alive, so I would probably go with hunter.”
Mars — one-way ticket? “Probably not, I enjoy my creature comforts way too much.”
How many pairs of shoes? “Too many sneakers and takkies! My husband is constantly reminding me.”
One new law for everyone? “3-day weekends!”
Ever re-gifted? “Not going to lie, I have definitely done this before in the form of a hand cream or scented candle!”
Skill you’d like to master? “I am very keen to learn the piano. And to fine-tune my sewing skills.”
